Daughter's Encounter With Two LE Agencies

I think it is/was common courtesy to inform the officer that she was getting in his car with a weapon, as well as common sense.
One of the reasons I started this thread was to point out an instance of a pleasant encounter between officers and an armed citizen. We always hear the horror stories, but I believe most encounters between reasonable people end on a good note.

Glad to hear that the ladies in your life are o.k. Thanks for sharing this good news story and for making the point that not all LEO/GWL encounters are negative. While we're not required to inform, I believe it is the proper thing to do. After all, in order to receive a GWL we have to prove that we are upright citizens; taking the courteous step to inform merely reinforces this standard.
Your post is unclear- is your wife opposed to carrying, or...?

I knew she would feel much better if she informed the officer than she would riding in the patrol unit with a concealed gun, without the officer's knowledge. I know it could have been otherwise, but I still believe most officers are reasonable.

Good to here a positive story on here for once. If it had been me, out of courtesy, I would have done the same thing and told the cop I was CC'ing. I know I don't have too but hey, does it hurt to say, no. Thats what you call respect.

redlevel, I am glad to hear that your daughter and your wife are OK. I think she handled the situation very well. Although she is not "required" to tell the LEO that she is carrying, in this instance, I believe your advise was spot on. I am pleased to hear that the LEO's were as easy to deal with as your stated. Glad your family is OK.

Good Job by the 2 LEO's in the story. Glad the accident was not serious (except to the car). Nice story. FWIW I also think there is a time and place to "inform", this being one of them.

Glad she's ok. The very same thing happened to friends of mine several years ago on the way back from Biloxi. Messed up their car pretty bad.

I agree with the gist of the posts. No duty to inform, but a courtesy.

It would be nice if you or she or both called the departments in question and let their commanding officer know what happened. Police officers hear the negative all the time as well, I'm sure they'd appreciate hearing a positive review for once.
