Every rider needs to go at least once.
Sad thing is, the hotel rates are the HIGHEST of the year during Bike Week because they know people will pay it.
I went during the mid 90's with some buds. Good times.

Ok, another high point of our visit was walking around the bars at night and we saw police pulling a guy out of one of the bars in hand cuffs.
I looked at the guy and said to my buds, "hey, isn't that Scott Russell?"
It was, and he still won the Daytona 200 the next day...

We used to call it "trailer week". The tits seem to be gone, Daytona PD started locking up women caught flashing them. It used to be fun many years ago, but I have not been since they closed the Bulow campground. They used to have tittie contests almost every night that turned into full nudity, some contestants were paid to put their clothes back on! Daytona kind of lost it charm after that, all the yuppie biker wanna-bees, loud mouth pseudo gang members. It started to become so phony.

Haven't been since the 80's, quit going when I ruptured a disc and couldn't handle the weight of my '73 Z1 Kaw, neighbor rides his Harley or BWW to BiketoberFest every couple of years.
The real question is, are you riding down to Daytona or trailering your bike?? 
Russell is a madman! I remember that year-true Ga boy done good! He could slide a front tire at speed that defied physics!

It's a great ride down and back, burning them off on the highway is always a treat.
I made the run back in 99, in 6 hours and 20 minutes, best I ever did.
When I got home it took a couple hours and a couple beers to slow me down, lol.
If you don't have a good time, you're in the wrong place, look elsewhere.
But I agree it has changed....
It's seems like nowadays you might be better off catching the end of the week and that weekend before it starts.
