Daytona Bike Week

Anybody here planning to make the trip this year?

Man, it's changed so much over the years. Cops have tightened up on everything. Besides, you can only go so many times before it gets a bit boring. Traffic sucks, bike gets hot as hell, and food/hotels/ beer is outrageously priced. You can only buy so many T-Shirts. I stick to the smaller events and just enjoy riding these day's rather than all of that.

You will see a bunch of trailers hauling bikes there just so they can ride up and down the streets showing off. Chicks aren't even as hot as they used to be or maybe I'm just getting older.

The real question is, are you riding down to Daytona of trailering your bike?? :pop2:

That's funny because you will see a lot of those there, with tags from Ga too, lmao. I purchased an enclosed trailer a couple of years ago because the price was right. Never owned one before but have borrowed them before to haul a bike that would not run to the shop now and then or helped a buddy out. So, I figured I would buy one. You know, that dang thing has sat in one spot for a couple of years now and has not moved, lol. I have never trailered a bike to an event and always rode mine. I guess it's a pride thing. Bike is usually dirty as hell when you get where you are going but there is always a bike wash setup somewhere so you can have girls in bikinis wash it for you.

I used to have a sticker on my panniers..."If you see this bike on a trailer CALL THE POLICE, it's STOLEN". LOL

It's a great ride down and back, burning them off on the highway is always a treat.
I made the run back in 99, in 6 hours and 20 minutes...

That's incredible time! I am planning for 8-9 hours From Fayetteville to Jacksonville, where I will spend Saturday and hook up with my old riding buddies. Jax to Daytona, as little as an hour, depending on how crowded the roads are. Glad I put on this comfy saddle: IMG_0974.JPG

Saddle does look comfy, but I can't imagine it'll take you that long unless you goof off at the gas stops, lol.

I use to make runs from NYC to Cumming and Cumming to Camp LeJeune regularly, the gas stops are what kills you.

Look for the station you can see close to the highway, use the debit or credit card don't waste time going in, don't drink anything and you won't need to make a head call.

Then make up the time you lost in the first 30 minutes or so and you'll buzz right through it. :becky:

Bet you can do it in 4 hours and 30 minutes, lol.

Yep, exactly this. I've been to Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest dozens of times since my first Bike Week in 1985. And had plenty of ranbunctious Penthouse Forum stories to tell as a result. LOL But the last time I went was a couple of years ago. It was good reconnecting with some old friends but the novelty has definitely worn off for all of the reasons you listed.

It's funny reading about people making good time getting to Daytona. It's about a 2.5 hour ride down I-95 for me to get to The Oasis in St. Augustine. Once we got there, time stoped and we bar hopped all the way down A1A to Daytona. If you're in a hurry, you can be in Daytona from my house in about 5 hours. We've taken as long as 12 hours to make that ride. lol

And If you want to have "biker fun" in Daytona, you have to get off the beaten bath and hit up some of the small dive joints to the north and the south on A1A and Ridgewood. Main Street is for rubberneckers, Although we always seemed to manage to close Froggy's. lol

Angel City Rally is a whole lot cooler than Bike Week or Biktoberfest IMO
I've been told that, and plan to check that out this year hopefully. My grandfather lives in north Florida, so I ride down to his place and we take the backroads down to Daytona. We are more there for the trip than anything else, he's 75 so I'm just happy he's still going. This is me and him at biketoberfest last year!
