Debate: quantity or quality?

800 bucks will build a jam up gun if you go the no frills parts. Like NiB BCG, high dollar hand guards, and the like. At one point I had 9 AR's that I built myself. All of which were night dollar builds (1,200- 1,800) range. I feel you can produce a really fine weapon for 1200 but I usually end up spending a little more. One like that would cost you 1,600 and up off the shelf. Then I realized that was just to many MSR's and ruined down to two 5.56's, two 6.8's and one AR10 a 308. I am contemplating a 6.5 creedemore but that would be it. Each one of my intermediate AR cost around 1,400 so quality out weighed quantity. My AR10 came in a 1,800. I did have 3 so quality won over again. You can pick up one of my guns and just feel the money that went into them.

So I have to agree with you. I would rather have 5 real nice high quality guns than 20 so so units. You can only shoot one at a time anyway. Now when it come to older blued steel and high luster stocks I can't get enough of. I collect those.

If you run in right circles you can have a quantity of quality for what most spend for just quantity.

I also used to subscribe to quantity only, now it's purpose built quality. I don't need 5 ARS setup identically, sell 3 and setup up something different. I learned that quick with hand guns, took longer on rifles.

Split the difference. I see no need for a $3000 gun but I see a need for a $250 boat gun. $1000 is a good price cap on most guns. After that it's very minor gains to diminishing returns. If you're talking rifles, put the extra cash in glass and ammo. If you're talking pistols put it in ammo and a giant flat screen.

This guy gets it....Light this man a cigar....

In a predictable world yes, quality. I could easily dream of only having 4 or 5 firearms, get them repaired or buy new as needed. But this is a unpredictable world with a constant ebb and flow of the nibbling away at our Guns, mags and ammo rights so quantity is what I would prefer. The more that were lost in a boating accident and sitting at the bottom of the pond is better for me.

Obvious answer... Go shoot those things!!
FYI, the PSA version (v2) of the cmmg mutant ran excellent (until I lost it in that boat crash!) and can be picked up pretty reasonably if you watch the sales... you actually save a bit if you buy the upper and lower separately

Yeah, I have a boy at work bragging on them too, but I think for time being though, I am going to hold off on getting anything new.
