MARLIN 30-30 LEVER ACTION IF YOUR BUDGET IS TIGHT AND LIKE IRON SIGHTS, ruger american in 30-06 if you like scopes. any other caliber is for the fancy.
Buy you a Browning X-Bolt, pick the caliber of your choice, I'm partial to the 270. and it'll be the only deer rifle that you'll ever need. I didn't say want..........but need.
30/30 is a great round for our deer and landscape. I have switch rifles depending on mood and area hunting. I have taken deer with 30/30, 243, 308, 223, 300 blackout. But during the rut I always use my Ruger 30-06.
If I could only have one caliber to hunt deer with it would be the 30-06.
30-06 or .270, my personal choice is .270. Savage is probably the best all around deal out there, as well as being an amazingly accurate rifle. I don't much care for the new Ruger American rifles, they just feel too light for me. That being said, the rifle I always reach around all others to grab is a Ruger M77 with the tang safety.
Marlin gold trigger .30.30....I always go back to it if I do stray, which is rare! I think the .30.30 has taken more deer than all others combined! I run a nikon prostaff 3x9x40 on both of mine.
In Georgia where brush can be thick and most shots happen under 75 yards I'd go for a winchester model 94 AE 30-30 with a good Leupold scope or a Marlin 336 30-30 with a good Leupold scope...yes other scopes are fine but I am sold on Leupold low light performance.
My winchester has served me well and been beat up in the woods while taking several deer with one shot only.
I like Leupold VX-II 3-9x40 scopes because they are clear and work well in low light in the pre dawn and post sunset times when you are most apt to seeing a Buck or a herd.
If you are in bear country you can step up to a larger caliber......I will be using the Marlin 444 for my deer hunting in bear country this season but the 30-30 or the .308 marlin express for deer.
