I wonder how a grinding disk on a dremmel would do .
It would work. Just take your time. Place a couple layers of tape around where you are cutting in case you you dremmel gets a away from you. I'd take it down most of the way and then finish with a finer grit. Put some perma blue on the raw metal so you don't have to ever worry about rust.

I've heard as long as those mag releases are metal, they run strong.

Looking for that too. The mag release.
I run the S15s as well. I did have a problem with my mags not locking my slide back when there was no ammo in them. I just took the base plate off and stretched the spring and they're good now. I wonder if its an issue with the early models?... I've shot hundreds of rounds through my mags since and they have been reliable imo.
