disasembling ruger mark 3

KEY POINT: You need to pull the trigger to get the hammer strut far enough forward to get it into the main spring housing. BUT>>> The Mark 3 has a mag disconnect safety, so you have to put the mag back in, pull the trigger and move the strut then take the mag back out because the main spring housing "lock" wont flip back down with a mag in.

The Mark 2's were so much easyer but when you get it you'll be able to do it in the dark... well as well as you can do anything in the dark, anyway

Its really not that hard. Read the owners manual. I recommend getting a Tandemkross hammer bushing, a $10 part, which eliminates the mag disconnect. That way you dont have to keep inserting and taking out the mag while disassembling. The mags also drop free with this installed. Don't give up. These are awesome plinkers!

^ This. The mag disconnect makes things much easier. And there is a method to it that once you figure it out you will wonder why you had so much trouble doing it in the begging. The Ruger is actually the easiest of the target pistols to dissasemble/clean. My neighbor has the Buckmark and had one of the Neos pistols. The neos wasn't too much of a headache but the buckmark requires tools to dissasemble and clean where the ruger I can take it apart and run a swab through it in 10 seconds at the range and have it back together.

If its really that much of a pain for you this is a good option too, but then again it will mean you will have to have tools to service the weapon

It allows you to remove the bolt block without removal of the mainspring housing

First thing I got for mine, damn mags never wanted to come out

I've only ownded one Mark 3. It was a 22/45. Having to actually pull the mags out, with enough force I though I was going to bend or break the plastic mag floor plates ruined it for me. I'll stick with my old Mark 2's. If I ever have to get a Mark 3 again I will be removing the mag disconnect.

Spend $10 and get the hammer bushing. It will save you a bunch of headache of reassembly and your mags drop free.

Don't give up trying. It's very simple once you do it a couple times

When I put the accurizing kit in my mk3 I had to have a youtube video up to walk me through it. It can be done if everything is done in order. Now I just clean it the best I can without disassembling it.
I will tackle it again someday to give it a proper cleaning.
maybe.
