Discovery Chanel special on geese.

I live near lake Lanier and we always have geese flying over in the V formation. I alawys wondered why one side of the V is always longer than the other. the Discovery Channel did an intensive study on the phenomenon and figured it out.

there are more geese on that side.

More importantly is why do they fly in a V formation at all? I think it's so they don't poop on each other.
