We had one of the first bag phones, paid by the minute.
Before that we had one that operated on a closed two way radio system….. the same radio that we used for business had the capability to make phone calls over the radio network.
The person you talked to heard you like you were talking on a radio (which you actually were).
Damn, time flies !

That was also the first one I had, wasn’t really a fan of it though

Number 4 and I still have it.

Started with the bag phone. It was stolen from my car two months later.

Next came the indestructible #6 or 7 Nokia that survived several mishaps including a free fall in an elevator shaft.

Kept going with any number of 'free' phones and eventually joined the SmartPhone crowd.

1991 for me, Motorola bag phone. I could literally make money with it, contractors would pay me too avoid going to a pay phone. Then the novelty, people offering to pay just to use it.

1991 Motorola Bag phone I was worried about signing the one-year contract in case it did not work out. Havent been without one since.

Bag phone. Worth every penny to keep from having to search for working pay phone, then stand in freezing cold and rain to use one!
I’m still using the latest iteration of AT&T’s free flip phone.
But, with everything being done by texts and qr codes now, think my New Years Res. needs to be let go of the past and grab a smart phone.
