Does a Chevy Tahoe make a good kid hauler?

Im still getting knowed up but I thought I read where it involved a cam change too? If its just programming the pcm then thats great.

My understanding is the system causes issue with the cam and valves and leads to oil burning. That is why the engines hold so much oil planning for loss. The disabler keeps the system from operating, thereby keeeping all 8 cylinders working all the time, like a V8, otherwise the system shuts off 4 cylinders and lets it run as a 4 cylinder till you raise the rpm.

They are great vehicles, just a dumb system to make epa fuel mileage laws. cut it out keep the v8 and you should be good to go. just need to do it asap with as low miles as possible. some other manufactures have similiar systems. like the nfa and atf people find a work around for dumb pointless rules

Turning the MDS system off doesn’t fix the issue at all
You still need to replace the lifters with none Mds lifters
Then you will be golden
Also need to fix timing from adjusting simple key mod will fix this

chrysler tech here and our 5.7 does this and lack oil on these lifters causes the needle bearings Inside to fail
Same as GMs
When this happens it will eat the cam lobes clean off

very expensive fix 3500-4500 bucks give it take

hell our 3.6 Chrysler tappets and rockers do the same
Tappets gets sponge and rockers needle bearings collapsed
Eats cam lobes

best advice

don’t allow them idle a lot
Use good quality oil and filter and change on time or even before time

drive them

Cop cars can eat a cam about 30k miles
They idle a lot

Most extended warranty will pay for this minus the deductible as long as you can prove oil changes been done on time with correct oil

buy what you like and want and know the maintenance and save up to fix that
Enjoy life loving what you love and like

I got a 2006 4x4 Tahoe, love and hate it at the same time, replaced the Lifters and bracket, cam, just replaced the rear seal box, oil cooler gasket, oil pan gasket, and vent box and other parts on the gas tank, dropped the tank and blew out all the line full of charcoal pellets. close to 200,000 miles and get 19 to 23 mpg. Lots of room in this truck. Even got a DVD player for the back seats.

How in the heck do you get 19-23 MPG? Our ‘07 got 13 and the ‘12 got 14 MPG.

On mind the bracket that holds the lifters shifted and the lifters turned sideways and wore a groove in the cam, had to replace them all since we had it all tore apart.
