Sounds like they should stay with you guys for a while. Then we'll know how good your vac works.

Dyson Animal all the way. I had an Oreck that wouldn't pick up anywhere near what the Dyson does. It is canister, but it always amazes me that the canister is filled up a couple of times each time I use it and the Oreck bag would take over a year to fill. I get that it gets compressed in the bag, but the Dyson really is better in my opinion. I just open the canister inside a 14 gallon trash can and I've never thought it was messy.
I think at this point it would be cheaper in the long run to just install hardwood floors throughout the house then give your wife a broom and dustpan.......
