im a firm believer in getting them as pups. you never know what kind of psycho had it prior to you. and dogs are as impressionable as children. thats what happens when someone makes them a cage ornament and deprives them of human contact

glad he is ok tho. hopefully the mental scar heals faster than the physical because im a firm believer in mans best friend

Glad your grandson wasn't hurt bad. It's too bad the dog had to be put down but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Yep. The type of dog is never that big of an issue, more on how they were raised and cared for.

I am having the same thing happen right now with a dog in my house hasn't gone after the kids, but me and my girlfriend instead. I am looking into alternatives for the dog. Don't want to have to put him down, but he is six and a mut. Not many people in line for a mixed that's six. Good looking dog. Just quick to bite its masters haha.

I think Labs and Shepherds are fear biters, shepherds moreso than labs. Australian Shepherds are not half as bad, but in any case you have to know your breeds' traits. I have an Aussie specifically for that reason an she has NEVER EVER even so much as growled or showed her teeth to anyone in my household. Strangers do make her nervous and she shows them that she is ready to guard her territory ( which is why My postman, UPS, etc never comes to my door and ALWAYS leaves me those delivery notices) but never to anyone that is a regular to my house nor to my children

My black lab bit me in the face, when I was about 14. It was my fault I had scared him. He was sleeping beside the chair and I rolled out of the chair on my way out of the room. I initially punched him and he went and hid. I had to go get my dad to close a wound below my eye, under my nose and behind my ear. We discussed putting him down but in the end kept him. He became the most fiercely protective dog I have ever had. It was a blessing and a curse he wouldn't let anybody except my dad or I near him. We finally put him down when my daughter was born, she crawled by him one day and he started the low growl with teeth showing. So I took him in the back yard said my goodbyes and buried him.

I might be able to help stop this behavior. If you're interested, shoot me a PM.
