I lost a pit this past summer to poisoning. He ate a rat that had eaten the rat poison I put in the shed. He went from happy to labored breathing to dead in about 12 hours.

I didn't think about the possibility of a snake bite. She liked to go under the house and it's not that awful cold under there. We have a huge rat snake that stays around here and I thought maybe he/she would keep the poisonous snakes away, maybe I was wrong thinking that.
Man what a horrible day. Sorry for your loss. My dogs have always been like my kids. Definitely presents like poison unless there was an un-diagnosed health issue. Dogs are really good at masking pain and symptoms of illness.
