I highly recommend chipping and GPS trackers for any potentially wandering pets.

My beloved bulldog Frankie is gone! I turned her out one morning and she didn’t show up at feeding time that afternoon, and she never misses a meal! I don’t know wheather she’s dead or someone picked her up. It’s been very hard on me, I’ve been irritable and hard to be around. The not knowing is the worst part, we live in the country with no neighbors, I’ve searched the fields and woods, asked everyone in the community but no one has seen her. I think that most likely someone picked her up, I just hope they give her a good home and not use her for fighting! It’s been two weeks now and I’ve all but given up hope of ever finding her, although everywhere I go I’m looking. I’m just disgusted and broken hearted! In addition to contacting animal control or other animal rescue/adoption agencies how about visiting your local veterinarian offices?
Many of them have bulletin boards for lost and found pets.
If somebody found your dog and wanted to return her they might bring her to a private vets office to scan for a chip.
And if somebody found your dog and wanted to keep her, they may take her to a vet to have her checked out / dewormed and get her shots updated.

I'd also look at the classified ads online-- Facebook craigslist etc. for people selling dogs or rehoming pets ( with a fee).
Pet thieves will often take a stolen dog about 100 miles away and advertise it for sale.

If you find your dog was stolen and offered for sale you might also want to check the classified ads for a wood chipper and a head-to-toe biohazard suit...

Don’t give up hope. I had a border collie that was afraid of storms and fireworks. Well one new year eve he bolted. After a few weeks I gave up. Middle of. February I got a call from the vet with a name and address of where he was. I picked that dog up at least a mile away in every direction. He went to one guys house so many times my wife baked him a cake. Hope he shows up. Dogs are better than people.
