Things are finally starting to look up for me. I've got a job I like with an electrical contractor doing hvac controls, Ans although its new and challenging, I showed the foreman I was worth keeping come layoff time. I was the only new hire they kept, and I haven't forgotten that either, I been busting my ass to show them why I'm worth keeping. But, the layoffs got me thinking.. I'm in my last year of apprentice ship now, once I become a 5th year, should I get laid off, not many companies need 5th years, so I could spend a month sitting waiting for a call, and once I turned journeyman, that time could go even longer. Realizing I have a valuable skillset, and with so many people asking me to do service work for them, I decided to begin stepping towards my Master electrician license!! Taking a prep course through my apprenticeship training center starting next month, and afterwards, Ill be taking my masters license exam.. This time next year, ill be a Journeyman wireman that I've worked since 3 days after graduation to become, as well as a licensed, bonded and insured contractor!!! Plan on doing weekend/evening work in the beginning while working for a contractor, then once work gets heavy, ill go out on my own bidding jobs and hopefully make something I can pass to my kids. Sorry, just wanted to share some good news.
