In my own little world of confusion
Never been a fan of the AR platform. But recently went into my favorite shop and they have dropped the price and offering a rebate as well.

I'm intrigued about possibly getting one now.

At one point I heard great things about the DPMS. Still true?

Should I get one without the forward assist?

Just give me some pointers.

I think the M&P Sport II is the golden standard these days, but nothing wrong with a DPMS. I think the market is hitting bottom, so now is the time to buy.

I have an Oracle AR10 that is a sweet shooter. That being said I think I'd pickup an M&P Sport II right now if I was in the market.

I have a DPMS. I do not recommend one without forward assist and definitely not without a dust cover. I have been happy with my DPMS. It did not like steel cases (Wolf Ammo), but other than that, it has worked flawlessly and I have had it since 2010. If you get one, I have the M4 zero target on digits. If you get it, IM me and you can get your iron sights right.

I have a slick side rifle that would probably out shoot my DD,LWRC,colt,KAC... it is a shooter. This was my first AR, I've had it probably close to 20 years.

I had a DPMS LR-308 in the 24 inch bull barrel platform. SOB weighed a ton but it was very accurate. When I say accurate I mean 5 shots equals 1 ragged hole. It shot very nicely. The only reason I sold it was because it was just too damn heavy. It was only good for hauling from the truck to the shooting bench and that was it. I don't judge guns by the name except for PSA ( to many bad experiences with parts ) but the DPMS was a good gun. Was it a HK? Not by a long shot but for the money a great gun. A lot of the lesser expensive guns could be bought and upgraded and made into great guns. Pick one that doesn't have a lot of slop. Change out the barrel and BCG and then you have a really good gun. As long as it's mil spec from the factory it can transformed into a really, really good custom.

In a world where Colt OEMs are $650, why would anybody buy a dpms?

And calling the sport 2 the gold standard is ****ing laughable.
