Drilling into hard metals

I'v used a masonry drill on hard stuff before, but I don't get why he dulled the carbide on the drill with a regular grinding wheel. Carbide don't sharpen unless it's diamond or a green wheel

He was changing the geometry of the bit.

Metal cutting relies on cutting and shearing. Masonry on fracturing and powdering.

Masonry bits aren't even 'sharp'.

And yeah, I've done this. Specifically with pistol magazines to get rid of the 'bulge' that gets put in 10-round mags. Cobalt drills won't cut Mec Gar mags

yes, but by changing the geometry (cutting angle) did he not change it into a cutting / shearing hard metal cutting bit? 'Looks feasible'
