Duracoat vs. Cerakote

I like Cerakote personally.. If either is done correctly it ISNT going to flake off. I have refunished menay guns, (some more than once just to change the color) and believe me... spend an hour at a beadblaster removing removing the finish and decide for yourself. I personally go Cerakote for metal (heat cured if I want a strong finish) and use duracoat for plastics and composites.

I agree if prep is done thoroughly and properly both will be fine. Ive used duracoat, prepped parts correctly (cleaned/degreased/heated), properly applied coats with correct application (not to thin or thick), and HERES THE BIG PART.............you have to let it cure.....yes it can be "handled" in an hour or so and parts put back together in 24........But leave the thing alone and let it achieve its maximum hardness.

Alot of people have no patience and spray it on with little prep (for either product) and roll on with it only to complain later on.

That being said both parts will show wear/chipping on contact points, but...i have a cetme Ive done and had the buttstock off the reciever 9 times and it has only flat rub marks (and those fit extremely tight).

Nothing will compare to a phosphate park job IMHO

Im going to have to agree with what others have said. I have a Hi Power that is still duracoated. Not too bad a job but its just not as nice a finish as cerakote. As soon as I have the money again, Accurate Ordinance in Winder will be cerakoting mine for me.

Not to hijack a thread, but do any of you ever use wipe out foaming bore cleaner on your coated firearms. My experience with duracoat -- I put wipeout in the bore and let it sit over night. When I do this I let the liquid drain at a very very slight angle to the muzzle so it is not a headache to clean out of actions and such. Well it tends to "hang on" to the under side of the barrel and after 2 applications it ate the duracoat slap off in a nickel size spot where it drips. Anyone else ever experience this?
