Ever thought about getting a tattoo?

^ sorry for the long post, but it's **** we deal with daily...good stuff for clients to know before coming in and making **** asses of themselves.

Your "Next One" sounds cool...I am "Thinking" on one to commemorate four "Important Men" in MY life--My Father, Father-in-law, best friend's Dad and a mentor/fellow Shooter who taught me so much that I am forever indebted to him--All four were WWII Veterans, three out of the four were in the Navy & the other was a "Gyrene"...Wonder if I could find anybody to do a "Navy Anchor" with a lil' "Globe & Anchor" attached?....mikey357

Yep...my grandfather, despite his many faults, did a helluva lot to help me get my family off the ground when I was in my early 20's. Big influence on the course my life has run for sure. Here's the insignia...should fit well on my calf since I am a big dude:

Okay, so we've gone through ten rules of etiquette for tattoo studios. This certainly does not cover everything,
but it covers the biggest issues. You might think this is all
common sense, and truthfully it should be...but its not.
These are the issues we constantly have to deal with in our
studio. Remember that a little common sense and courtesy
to your artist will go a LONG way to making this choice the
most pleasant and rewarding experience you can have.

Great post, man. I am glad to see that I have been following your rules all along with my first 3 tattoos. Most of them are common sense...but yet it never ceases to amaze me how little common sense or common decency society has as a whole these days.

1st: I designed 2 of my 3 pieces, so I knew what I wanted going in. The 3rd one...I picked it out well in advance of having it done.

2nd: Common sense to me. I've never tipped less than 20% on any of my tats. And I have found that the artist I have used in the past cuts me more than enough slack to the price to make tipping easy.

3rd: Common sense...but some people think haggling is a way of life. I never haggled on mine. I ask the hourly rate...and how long it the artist thinks it will take. He's never screwed me on the time, so I don't feel the need to haggle.

4th: Yep...drinking and tattooing don't mix. If you need liquid courage to get a tattoo...then you don't really need the tattoo in the first place. Not a macho thing...it's a health thing. If you've been drinking, your blood is thinned. The more you bleed, the harder it is to get the piece done correctly. I've seen the artists at the studio I use turn someone away all three times I have had work done...be it drunkeness, sunburn, whatever.

5th: I'd never let anyone tattoo me in a house. Forget it. Not happening. No amount of money is worth catching Hep-C or something. First thing I look at when I come to the chair is the autoclave bags. They better be sealed when I get there. I don't know too many home scratch artists who own autoclaves...

6th: :pound: LMAO. You'd think a person would have the common decency to clean themselves before getting a tattoo, but I guess not. I bathe immediately before going to the studio.

7th: My artist didn't say more than a few words to me while doing my first piece. The second time, he talked a good bit more. The third time, we chatted it up the whole time I was there. As much as concentration, some people just don't make idle talk with a stranger.

8th: I've seen this happen firsthand to a 250+ pound young man. Not pretty. Stood up out of the chair after the tattoo, started to take a step, went face down on the floor. Came in for a tattoo...left in an ambulance to go have his badly broken nose fixed. Better to admit you aren't hacking the process rather than be injured for trying to be a tough guy.

9th: I'm a big believer in this one. Same guy did all of mine...and I think the second two are better than the first, almost like he tried harder on the later ones because I kept coming back. That, and I sent my niece to him for one of her pieces.

10th: Common courtesy. I rarely if ever tell what I paid for a certain piece. It's no one's business but mine and my wife's (since she is the CFO of the family :D)

GlockInk...if you weren't close to 4 hours away...I'd have to pay you a visit since my artist moved out of state. Alas...I have to start the whole process again with another artist.

I did....then I sobered up....(sorry, couldn't resist). Seriously, I never want any markings on my body that makes it easier for Big Brother to ID me.

I don't know about getting a tattoo personally, but the thug that kicks down my door is going to get a lead tattoo that only the medical examiner will get to admire. :laser:
