After using Wheel Spacers on an old Wrangler of mine I would also say "Stay Away". Thankfully I didn't have any catastrophic issues but it puts added stress where there shouldn't be. I had spacer lugs break on me.

Be safe, and get the correct backspaced wheel for your rig.
 
they cause lateral stress on the lugs and the axels.

If they are only rubbing a tad at full turn, I would not waste the time or money. Just wait and get a suspension lift in the future if you want a bigger tire.

This! If they're only rubbing at full lock, I would strongly suggest leaving the spacers alone.
