Factory Five 33 Hot Rod

Picked the rotating assembly from the machine shop this afternoon. They balanced everything for me. Carb and flywheel were sitting at the doorstep when I got home. This is an internally balanced engine so the neutral flywheel and clutch can be checked a little later. Obviously it's been a while since I've built any serious engines. Took me over an hour to file end gaps for four rings.....only 28 to go.. Someone please tell me why I didn't buy a crate engine. I'll post some progress pics this weekend

because anybody can buy a create engine or buy a car finished. your building a dream ride that you built not someone else.
the only problem I see as for me is getting that power house engine together and wanting to her it thump waiting on the body.

sometimes if the cam has to high a lift you do have problems with vacuum but they make vacuum pumps to help with brake boosters.

if your building a beast who cares about price of gas it's not an everyday driver and 103 smells good too.
I don't know what type of oil your planning on running but with the roller may not be a problem anyway. they have taken Zinc out of oil and so in my 34 with the 327 and other older engines I run Royal purple it has zinc still. you can get a zinc additive called ZDDP.

keep us updated

P6140015.jpgThe painted blockP6150017.jpgThe attempt at installing the crankshaft. Appears I have either the wrong or misboxed bearings. The bearings do not fit the caps with the exception of the thrust bearing. I'll be at Summit at 9:00 am.P6140016.jpgGot all the end gaps squared away early this morning. Hopefully I can solve the bearing issue in the morning and make some progress. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there.

Got the correct main bearings from Summit. Apparently there are two different sets for a 351W, early and late. I don't know about this damn stud girdle. All the rods on the left side hit it, so I took it back off and ground it for clearance. Reinstalled it and now the oil pump contacts it. I could understand the rods being it is a stroker, but the oil pump??? Crap !!!

I think they called the ones in the Bronco's 351W Modified. I don't know the difference I have a buddy in flowery branch who went Bronco crazy ten or more years ago. I have a 351W in a 65 Mustang but it's been there for years untouched. they are some good engines.

Making progress I see. Will stop by soon and check out in person.
You're welcome anytime. Progress is slow though, three steps forward then two backwards.

I always wanted to do a F5 roadster, but never could come up with the time (without it taking 10 years)
