Finally took the plunge.

Thats about how im feeling now!
What i REALLLLLLLLY want is a Norinco underfolder SBR with a 30cal can... drooool

Look into suppressed AKs before you take that plunge. Everything I have read has said that the AK is a horrible suppressor host. No personal experience to go on, just what I have read.

Well, host or not, i still want the SBR underfolder. It just gives my mind an excuse to believe a need a 30cal can.

The two biggest issues you are going to have with an AK are concentricity and limited suppressor options because of the threading. The first thing I would do is check the concentricity and then get it re-threaded to a more common thread length (unless you want to go with the Kestrel AK specific suppressor). I have two AKs that are threaded 1/2 x 28. One gunsmith did it right, and the other is not concentric. I can possibly have the other rethreaded again, or I would need to get someone to make me a barrel end cap sleeve that was permanently mounted.

Regarding sound it really depends. I have heard the same can on 2 different AKs and one sound noticeably louder, while the other one was nice. If you can verify concentricity, then maybe you can find someone to let you try out a can before purchasing. Either way, if you like AKs, definitely go the SBR route.

How hard is it to convert a traditional stock mounted receiver to an underfolder? I currently have 2 MAKs (on strait and one slant cut) that are potential canidates. From what i can tell the MAKs barrel quality (as far as imported goes) are the best machined in concern to roundness.

First regarding the barrel quality and roundness, this would not be the issue. The issue is that the threads may not be concentric with the barrel which would not allow the can to align perfectly with the barrel and thus raising the potential for a baffle strike. The easiest way to check is to get a rod, put it down the barrel, and check to see how the rod aligns with your muzzle brake or can (if your barrel is already threaded with a muzzle brake). You can either pay $75 for the Geissele rod, or buy a rod much cheaper. Here are the part numbers for 556 and 308, and I think you can buy these rods on Amazon. 8893K193 Multipurpose O1 Tool Steel, Tight-Tolerance Rod, 0.2188" Diameter, 3' Long and 8893K215 Multipurpose O1 Tool Steel, Tight-Tolerance Rod, 0.2813" Diameter, 3' Long. And I am sure you already know this, but be careful with the crown while inserting a steel rod down your barrel. I generally put a couple of wraps of electric tape on the ends.

Now regarding the underfolder, you would want to use the slant back, and some of those Maks are already setup for the Chinese underfolder (I think it is the 56S-1???). If so you will already have the underfolder trunnion, and you would just need to find the Chinese underfolder which is the hardest part. Sometimes you can find them at AK47World or Gunbroker. If it is not already setup with the underfolder trunnion, you will have to find a gunsmith or DIY (depending on your confidence level). I am guessing there would be YouTube videos showing you how to do it.

And that exactly why i got it. My buckmark is the slab side heavy barrel and she already struggles with it being a lil front end heavy. So im thinking of possibly having on the few threaded, slab side buckmarks! :bounce:And of course i got the savage mkii FV-SR as well.

I have a buckmark, I had the target version. I ended up doing a tactical solutions barrel, it's extremely light. My 6 year olds favorite to shoot.

I run a Huntertown Arms 762AK can on that AK47 Norinco Underfolder I got from you a while back. While it by no means is quiet it is hearing safe for me to shoot. Front heavy as hell but very enjoyable to shoot.
