Some of y'all recall me stripping the finish off this old Springfield/Stevens 67 in 20.gauge a few months ago. I had a local welder put an SKS sling mount under the barrel right past the lug for the mag tube. It came out well but they had to grind off enough bluing ( whatever was left) to get a clean weld . So I stripped it down with Birchwood Casey blue and rust remover and then cold blue on the bare spots. But then I looked at it maybe a week later and it was SO rusty it was like dandruff rust just flaking off. Well damn...
So I had to start over again. Oh and I have to work around a steel heat shield that is also tack welded at the rear near the chamber. Okay so steel wool and more blue and rust remover followed by brake parts cleaner. Then I went with Rust-Oleum high temp satin black. Sprayed half a dozen coats of that over a few days and let it dry. Few days after that I went with Rust-Oleum satin clear. Let that dry a few days and brought it home from work.
Since it's raining and ****ty outside I decided today I put it all back together. Not bad overall to ME. As I mentioned previously I was going for a Vietnam tribute type shotgun without making a straight up clone. I mean it's still 20 gauge after all. But it's not terrible ...I think.

Good job…I dolled up my old Maverick with wood and paint…I had to buy a 7 1/2” action tube, then cut it down to 6 1/2” and weld it back together, all because the 6 1/2” tubes are impossible to find….

That was the one weak point I found when I owned a Maverick 88. They rivet the action bars straight to the plastic fore grip. I had one break off right at the corner. And dual action bars or not when one breaks it don't wanna cycle. So this job you did is a must or replacing the assembly with a 500 action action bar sleeve assembly.

BTW...y'all can't see it since ain't no close up pics but I had to go back to Walmart for damn Gorilla Wood Glue. You know how the safety is on top like a Mossberg. Well the trigger group sticks out a good bit requiring a deep narrow slot in the front of the stock. Yeah I cracked both damn sides putting it back together. These guns are notorious for this but I thought I had it licked. Guess not. But the two corner pieces slid back in there really good and if the glue does what some damn Gorilla Glue says it does I should be good to go.

It's hard to see in these pics but I got a front sight from Numrich for an old Smith 916 12 gauge and JB Welded it to the barrel. So far that came out better than any of it.
