Some of y'all recall me stripping the finish off this old Springfield/Stevens 67 in 20.gauge a few months ago. I had a local welder put an SKS sling mount under the barrel right past the lug for the mag tube. It came out well but they had to grind off enough bluing ( whatever was left) to get a clean weld . So I stripped it down with Birchwood Casey blue and rust remover and then cold blue on the bare spots. But then I looked at it maybe a week later and it was SO rusty it was like dandruff rust just flaking off. Well damn...
So I had to start over again. Oh and I have to work around a steel heat shield that is also tack welded at the rear near the chamber. Okay so steel wool and more blue and rust remover followed by brake parts cleaner. Then I went with Rust-Oleum high temp satin black. Sprayed half a dozen coats of that over a few days and let it dry. Few days after that I went with Rust-Oleum satin clear. Let that dry a few days and brought it home from work.
Since it's raining and ****ty outside I decided today I put it all back together. Not bad overall to ME. As I mentioned previously I was going for a Vietnam tribute type shotgun without making a straight up clone. I mean it's still 20 gauge after all. But it's not terrible ...I think.
