A question for you

I have an OPAP , stock of course is unfinished. Looks pretty good a little dirty.

I thought of simply finishing with BLO or simply linseed oil

But I am considering staining then applying oil

thought of a reddish stain (not too RED)

Anyone have experience and maybe a pic of good result?

A good time to showcase your AK

I always stain them to the color I want and then spar varnish them. 3 coats let it dry for two days lightly sand with 400 grit and 3 more coats and it slick as glass and sealed.

image.jpgOK I finished the stock fluorescent lighting so color is not true. I think maybe could have been redder but its OK

Before you attempt to finish it, you'll need to strip out all the cosmolene that they coat and soak the wood in. That requires a heat gun. Check out the thread "Got Wood" in the Forearms section.

If you don't prep it first, your stain and finish will look like ****.
