I beg to differ. I have a factory NIB M16A2 with detachable carry handle manufactured in 2008. It was directly from the CEOs personal collection. Its known (type classified) as an A2E4.

A2 is fixed carry handle, 3round burst.
A2E3 is fixed carry handle, full auto
A2E4 is a removable carry handle with full auto

In AR15 verbiage I guess you could call it an AR15A2E4
