I owned 2 of the original BG-380s when they came out many years back and hated them. What came close to being a decent little DAO gun was a train wreck of snapped firing pins and cheap laser that was useless. Even to this day new shooters come into our shop looking for them and I have to bite my lip. This week we received two of these newly redesigned BG 2.0 guns that customers have been asking about.

DAMN, I am somewhat skeptical but impressed. I feel a tiny click in the pretravel of the trigger safety but over all feel is pretty awesome. It comes with orange front tritium sights and the mags hold 10+1 and 12+1. It fits in my pocket with a sticky sleeve very nicely this could be a Glock 42 replacement for some. I took it down and looks like a Glock style DA action where the trigger press completes the cocking of the striker with a rearward motion then eventually reaches the sear separation. I could be wrong but that would be super smart design. I think the safety aspects of a Glock DA are lost on most people.

This particular gun doesn't have a thumb safety or grip safety and that's a cause for celebration to me. I give lessons 7 days a week and have countless stories about the theories behind grip and thumb safeties compared to reality. I think the brilliance of the Glock double action is lost on most people.

This is the same price as a Ruger LCP or max and far better gun. One customer bought and tried, claims best shooting 380 ever, I look forward to getting one in the rental pool to try. I'm not an early adopter due to bad experiences but this complete redesign of the bodyguard with 10+1 & 12+1 mags could be a winner. Video is less than 1m long.

Good report…. thanks for taking the time to offer your initial impressions…. I have been giving thought to replacing my LCP Max based on some of the reviews if seen….

BTW…. S&W does offer the BG 2.0 with a thumb safety too!

Handled one this weekend but it had the safety. Told the gun store to call me when they get one without it and I’ll take it. May finally replace my old Kahr PM9.

Yes update I shot two of them at work today, one with safety and one without. Nice thing is that my thumb can somewhat turn the safety off or down with thumb with some effort when drawing or presenting. The other good news is the safety switch can be left off or down securely without being possible to sweep in on my accident. The other observation is a bug with the stiffness of the larger 12 round mag not wanting to accept the 12th round. Owner had to work the spring aggressively to eventually get that last round inserted and Smith is sending him a new mag. I think that will end up being a tiny design issue, or part sourcing with their spring, base pad and follower on the larger mag. Both guns shot great and I made a video. Very easy to hit a touch left and low by an inch or so at 7 yards but when I paid closer attention I could hit a 1 inch area easily. One thing noted. If you use the top edges of the front and rear sights to split a 1" dot on paper you will hit up to 1 inch low. Meaning the sights on this gun want you to cover the impact hole with the front DOT like a European style combat sight picture which is dumb but hey, nobody will care. I'm weird that way. If I can edit my video today I'll upload it to that same channel.

First shots 1 minute video. If not supporting the weak side of the gun you will hit slightly left but once you adapt to the tiny size and also press the trigger deliberately straight to the rear it hits dead center at 7 yards effortlessly. Surprisingly decent to hold with two male size hands. Even with the flush mag my pinky is still mostly on the grip not hanging free. With the 12 round mag it's downright comfortable. That is all I will be posting.... I may buy one after they prove themselves in the market place.

Size wise how is it compared to the Glock 42 or even a standard lcp?I have had 3 lcps, and one taurus tcp ( the best one out of the 4 micro 380s) but I always end up trading them off, because they sooner or later they present reliability issues ( shooter error) . The Glock 42 is great for me, but it’s on the bigger side of what I prefer in a pocket pistol.

I've not "touched" the Bodyguard 2.0 yet but have carried an LCP Max for a couple years now and also watched a few BG 2.0 reviews recently and the reviewer has held the two side-by-side…. they are pretty much identical in all respects…. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one.

Where did you buy the one without the safety at? I am looking for one.
