Wasn't a virus.
But yes, Windows is a horrible OS.
Handy as a virtual machine on certain operating systems for certain things.

Get a Hiren's boot cd. It has a bunch of utilities on it. Find one for hardware...it is probably memory going bad or maybe the hard drive.
