Buddy got this in trade yesterday, I don't know much about these. I had one several years back but don't know much about value or rarity. I do know the numbers all match so not a parts gun, and the wood is in very good shape. I might bring this to the meet in a couple weeks. So what do the experts ay, what do we have here?

Need clear picture of the factory number in the triangle and the figures/numbers following the triangle on the left side.

A picture of the right side of the bolt to see if it has lightening milling. Also check to see if the trigger guard is milled or stamped.

Here's a good source of information.

The SKS-Files is the online source for SKS info. Those guys can tell you everything about SKS rifles.

I agree - better pictures will help.

Based on the first 3 digits of the serial visible in the receiver pic “290” and the rest stamped on the stock “02329” you get the complete serial number 29002329. The State Arsenal stamp looks like /416\.

Likely a late production Type 56 carbine manufactured at Arsenal /416\ in 1984. Stamped trigger group for sure, can’t see but very likely a pinned barrel, cast gas block and cast tear sight base.

The late production pinned barrel Type 56 carbines are excellent shooters!
