Got a relative who hated shots. They took him for his pre-school shots (many years back) and he escaped and was running around the parking lot crying. So they rescheduled and since it was a day I would be off work, they invited me to come hold him. We arranged it so we went in a different door to avoid the waiting room and by the time we sat down in the exam room his suspicions were up. I started pointing out the blood pressure cuff and other stuff hanging up and while he was talking about them, positioned him so his back was to the door and he was sitting across my legs. I got my left hand clamped on his left arm at the elbow and my right arm was wrapped around him. Just as the nurse walked in (with the needle hidden behind her back) he said, "What's going on?!!"

About two seconds later we were walking out the door and I was telling him how brave he was and that we were going to get ice cream. 30+ years later and I still tease him about that.
