Ford vs. Chevy

I'll start off saying I'm a Ford guy, but I had a 2010 Chevy Colorado for work and it had nothing but issues. The lights would come on then go off. The interior was VERY cheaply made. The fuel line broke coming out of the fuel rail one moring when I started it. I will not own a newer than 1985 Chevy.

I say to each his own. I am curious as to what years/drivetrains we are referring to or all in general. I loved my 2-Door 97 5.7 Tahoe, then again I loved my F-150 too. I have to say though (and admittedly I did get out of the Auto Industry back in 2007) but for the most part GM trucks are much easier to service/work on. Believe me I was die-hard Ford and was in heated debates (worked at 2 Ford Dealers) but once I started popping the hood's of GM trucks it didn't take long to figure out that "hey, these guy's are right" (the other technicians).

In time and as the years went buy there did come a day when I happened upon an engineer for GM, specifically the truck line. When I asked how come Ford was always introducing ideas faster ex: introducing Multi-port back when GM was just starting to implement TBI he answered "GM's not trying to revolutionize the way things work. We're not trying to greatly beat emissions standards or change our power-plants or alter them every other year although yes the Multi-port is a better injection system. What were trying to do is keep thing's as simple as possible, stick with what works and meet government mandates. That's it."

Now I'll let you be the judge of whether that's a pro or con for GM. Keep in mind though that was in 2002 so different era, different mentality. As far as manufacturers they all have their duds, ALL manufacturers. What I would say it boils down to is this: Drive what makes you happy. It's my feeling that a true car nut can appreciate good ideas / quality no matter what the nameplate says.

1990 Toyota Camry (Given to me from a relative; 330K and everything still worked great)
1997 Jeep Cherokee M/T 4X4 (XJ) (Got tired of the Toyota mini-truck IFS and went solid axle, plus for $1500 it couldn't be beat; threw all my leftover money into upgrades)(236K and still going strong)
2004 Jeep Liberty Limited 4X4 (KJ)(Bought for the wife)

Certifications or not, it's all in what you want and makes you happy.
