Found at estate sale for 25 cents

FYI, that is the head of a lathing hatchet, designed for the purpose of nailing lathing to a wall before applying plaster. The flat top enables the worker to nail close to the ceiling without scarring the surface. The blade enables a quick clean cut without a saw, and. of course, the groove is a nail puller.

Thanks for the info. Seems like a good tool to keep in the truck.

update photos. Found a hammer handle at another sale this weekend. Now I am into this for 75 cents. The handle was a little thick so I sanded out some of the girth away. Gonna swing it some during the week to make sure no hot spots i need to fine tune.

Nice to know what it is, finally.
My dad had one. Didn't know what it was, but it was the best kindling splitter.
Light and quick, the long flat blade reaches deep for a nice straight split.
