Dude this has Pawn Shop written all over it. You just gotta hunt until you find the right one. But pawn shops wind up with tons of guitars, basses and amps that just sit and collect dust. My wife scored an acoustic Peavy for my daughter for $35.00 at the only pawn shop in Darien earlier this year. That guy never discounts anything but he was tired of looking at this guitar that was priced at $79.00.

Yep, what he said. I was in Forsyth gun and loan this past Saturday and they had 8-10 hanging on the wall. I don’t know what specific brands or models but they had several. Most pawn shops have many more than they want!

300-400 will net you a fine playing guitar. for cheaper ones im always partial to ibanez and alvarez myself. hell i have an old alvarez that is one of my never getting rid of's and is one of the best sounding and playing guitars i've ever had.

Alvarez was my guitar of choice had one in the house for over 20yrs got rid of it and now she wants to learn

I've played a long time, and I have never seen the guitar market so saturated with great value guitars. A little while back I played a Yamaha Fg800 with concert style body (perfect size for someone learning) and I was blown away by the performance and features on this $199 guitar. Solid spruce top, with scalloped bracing and a very nice gloss finish. It sounded good, and played like butter too. If I were shopping for a 12 year old learning to play acoustic guitar, this would be my pick. There is no better value. They also offer different finishes, such as natural or sunburst. All for the same price. They are not acoustic/electric, but for learning they are just about perfect. I highly recommend taking a look at the Yamaha.

Here's a link...It is the Guitar Center site, but these can be had at a number of different places, such as Ken Stanton. I only post this link because it has 35 reviews.

I also have a Gibson J-15 listed here if you want something a little more high end. LOL...Kidding.
