a bunch of us already donated our extra / unused fishing gear
to a church in Hiram or Dallas that has started a "fishing ministry"
outreach for kids and teens.
That was this summer.

I feel bad for you & your friend, but an ugly stick rod and reel is only $40 at walmart.

What kind of winter fishing does he do that involves more than that? It ain't an expensive hobby with just the basics.
