French Bulldog

I've always had shelter dog's I miss my all little mutts all were 4-11 lbs. I had 2 boxers one was 14 when I lost him. Now I got one that's bat sh## crazy she's on prozac but she's my nut. She is my avatar but here's a another pic of her. Shes loyal dog she's picked up on when my tremors are about to start. She's my shadow them dayView attachment 1152393

That's pretty cool. My avatar dog has anxiety issues but she is a fantastic dog.

My ex had a English bulldog. It belonged to her nephew and he was not able to care for her anymore. Great dog and a lot of fun. High maintenance is a understatement. We had to clean every wrinkle, crevice, and fold on that mini tank every couple of days. They will get yeast infections if they are not cleaned regularly. It made the most god awful noises sleeping and awake.

Yep... we wanted one... after seeing the price we went with a Boston. Big difference in attitude though. Boston are crazyView attachment 1152370

Boston all the way.

So my 11 year old has been wanting a French Bulldog for a while. Based on some recent events I decided she is responsible and will take good care of it, train it and so forth. So I did a google search. HOLY CRAPAMOLE!!! What the hell makes those damn dogs worth more than my ol' Chevy I drive everyday. She is going to have to fall in love with another breed. Lol.

Yes, they are expensive. I saw one in New York City for $4,000. Have you tried the French Bulldog Rescue? They, are always sending me ad's of dogs needing home's. Good Luck

Stay away from puppy stores. There might be a few out there that are alright, but the vast majority get their dogs from puppy mills that don't give a rat's ass about the quality, health or psychology of the dog. All they want is to be able to label them AKC, which is way to easy to do.

Honestly, there's not an objective way to tell whether a puppy store's puppies are any better or worse than a local breeder, or the dogs at a shelter or in foster.

Bottom line, people should get the dog they want. If it makes you feel good to rescue a dog, do it. We have, and we've loved each of them. But I wouldn't hesitate to get a dog retail or through a breeder if it was the dog I wanted. It's a very personal choice.

I have no problem getting a dog from a reputable breeder. My issue is with puppy mills and the poor quality dogs they produce. Both them and most pet stores think of puppies as nothing more than a product they want to make the most profit they can from, so they breed them fast and cheap. The genetics are often very screwed up which translates into some serious health and personality issues. Early care can be very sketchy, too.

People may think they are getting the dog they want, but all to often the dog turns into a nightmare because of these problems. You can see the results of this in specific breeds. For example, when the movie 101 Dalmatians came out and was a big hit, every kid in the country wanted a Dalmatian. The puppy mills jump on the breed and started cranking them out as fast as they could. Even today Dalmatians have a much higher occurrence of deafness than other breeds because that was a genetic flaw that took hold in the "line bred" (think incest) puppy mill dogs. The puppy mills saw it happening and didn't care. Most puppies aren't identified as deaf until they have already been with the family long enough for them to become attached to the dog. There are an enormous number of issues like this. Ever wonder why so many American bred German Shepherds are neurotic as hell? Or why so many American bred Labs have Hip Dysplasia?
