Item Description: I don't think this will come as news to anyone, but I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT that I am having issues with and the dealer (Hardy GMC, Dallas, GA) isn't much help at all. I have owned numerous GM products over the past 20 years and none have given me trouble until now! I am disappointed to say the least, but even more disappointed in the way the dealer handled it. My truck now has 23k miles on it and I am experiencing the following issues.
  1. Hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Dealer claims this is normal and that GM released a bulletin about it that explains it. To me it is an acknowledgement GM is aware of the issue but doesn't want to do anything to fix it. To me its NOT normal. Its not normal, because I can jump in my wife's car and it doesn't shift like that our in a competitor car/truck.
  2. Lights on dash come on like a Christmas tree. Service ESC (electronic stability control) and based of google that can be dangerous due to the fact you don't have full control of your vehicle. Also, service parking brake. And lastly check engine light to top it off. Now when the lights come on I loose power to the engine, which can potential be dangerous when pulling out in traffic and the engine bogs down like it has no gas or bad gas.
  3. Lastly, a number 7 Cylinder misfire. Which my mechanic provided me the code, but yet the GM dealer couldn't find anything out or explain the issue.
It took a month to get the appointment at the dealer and they could really care less. I have pictures showing the lights and code to support the problem and they never asked for them, even though I stated that I had pics/videos. I had to almost force them to look at them.

I am also aware of other GM trucks doing this and wonder what others have done to get it corrected or what the underlying problem was.

I agree 100%. I hadn't planned on getting rid of it so soon and would buy GMC again. An F150 or Tundra are now 70k and dont really want to spend that either... IDK
Don't buy a new Tundra at least not yet, they are having a bunch of problems, too many for the money they are asking for them thats for sure. And this coming from a Toyota fan...I won't buy the Tundra till they figure things out.

Engine/turbo problems?

Things to keep in mind when dealing with GM:

All customer service reps are Hewlett Packard employees. GM contracts out that part of the business. They don't care about you or your car. Only getting their contract renewed.

If 3 trucks are doing the same thing, GM considers it normal operation.

I spent many years in a GM dealership. You would not believe the things we were told to do to make the customers go away.

First thing I would do is take it to the dealer and tell them to fix the damn thing.
Secondly, if you have the 8 spd transmission, drain and replace the fluid.
Thirdly, do you have the 5.3? Move the coil pack from cylinder 7 to another one and see if the misfire follows. Could be a coil pack going bad or maybe just a loose connection.

I have right at 50k on my 21 1500 5.3 and it runs like a top, but I also wouldn’t touch that 8 spd if you paid me. 10spd or nothing.

Engine/turbo problems?

Both, I have been seeing more and more engines taken out and replaced for a variety of reasons on different forums etc. Overall build quality (rattles, noises, parts etc) not holding up, some of the die hard toyota advocates saying the build quality is not up to standard, seats cracking, electronic gremlins, transmissions going wonky etc. It is still relatively new, so it might turn into a solid truck later on, but for me right now the 2022+ is a big NO.

I was in the market for a full size (have a tacoma) but after watching the last year or so with the new ones, I think I am going to wait for the used market to settle just a little bit more and find a low mileage 2021 and older. I am also in the market for a 4wd SUV and am kind of waiting to see what they do with the 4runners next gen before I find a low mileage 5th Gen.
