The Breech plug screw is a simple fix. It can be replaced with one that is easy to take out for cleaning.. GLWS..Ray

Ummmmm I am going out on limb here but I think it would be a Hawken just going by the title.

Not really.... I use to have a couple of Hawkin Rifles that were made by Thompson Center Arms (I think "Hawkin" is just a style of rifle, so to speak....but I ain't any type of expert on them).
Here is what I found::
The term "Hawken rifle" technically referred to rifles made by Jacob and Samuel Hawken of St Louis, Missouri but was often used generically to refer to a variety of "plains rifles" of the period. The earliest known record of a Hawken rifle dates to 1823 when one was made for William H. Ashley, Ashley did several large scale fur trapping expeditions in the mountain west. The Hawkens did not mass-produce their rifles, they were hand made one at a time. Famous men said to have owned a Hawken rifle include: Jim Bridger, Kit Carson, Joseph Meek, and Theodore Roosevelt.

No such thing as a modern "Hawken" brand rifle. It's strictly a design that many manufacturers make today. Brand has a LOT to do with the quality of the particular rifle. So asking what brand it is has a lot to do with determining value and quality. For instance, if this is a Thompson Center it is an incredibly good deal and someone needs to jump all over it.

All it says is hawkin 50 cal it's a heavy gun not like the cheap kit guns. I built one of them it was 300.00 for the kit 40 hours to build (I think they throw in the reject part ) and when I was done it was beautiful the best 100.00 gun on ODT
