35+ here ! :)

It takes a lot of patience, understanding, dealing, you have to have your own space and allow your other half their space too, you have to be able to talk things out and deal with stuff like an adult.
Being married is by no means a license to lord over your other half either. You got to be able to treat each other with respect, privacy at times, act like an adult, share when it is called for, be fair and patient.
It is tough. Real tough sometimes. The longer you go the tougher it seems sometimes.
We have taken separate vacations just to get breathing room. There is no way in hell two people can stay glued to each other all the time without breathing room. It never works. If they do, they aren’t truly happy. I guarantee that !
Trust is a big one too. You have to trust each other and yourself to stay true, then stick with it !

50 years next month. Overlook or let slide the things that you can. Forgive the things you can’t Overlook. Bring her flowers at random times. Never disrespect each other or complain about your spouse to anyone. When she needs a hero, be her knight in shining armor, when she needs a friend to console her, give her your shoulder to cry on, when she needs incredible sex, give her that. Don’t be too prideful to say, you are right. Forsake all others. If she cooks something you don’t like, just eat it anyway And for goodness sakes, don’t say “my mom’s was better”. Be a man of integrity and she will follow your leadership.
