Item Description: All,
Medical bills are pushing me to list probably one of the rarest rifles in my collection...
This is an Elmer Ballance built EARLY Original Springfield Armory M1A...
Serial #00037X... YES, A 3 digit serial number...
And yes, A FIVE Line receiver stamp...
Mr.Ballance was the original and first owner of Springfield Armory... Before he sold out to Bob Reese in 1974
Mr Ballance retired from the Air Force in 1968-69... He was a master shooter and shot at Camp Perry and was also involved as an armorer and was in on building the USAF premium grade M1 service match rifles... And conceived the idea of building the Semi Auto version of the M14...
It is my understanding that these early rifles receivers were built from original M14 receiver blanks...
The very first few rifles were built in San Antonio, Texas...
He then builds shop in Devine, Texas... Which is where this rifle was built... Which put this rifle as roughly being built in the late 1971 to early 1972 era
The Devine, Texas location, Which is stamped into the barrel above the gas port, where it should be...
The receiver wears a 05/64 TRW NM barrel... Chamber in the white...
DME marked NM sights, 0.62 front blade with 1/2 moa rear peep...
TRW bolt # 7790186 ZG
HR-N trigger housing and hammer...
With a nice clean trigger pull of 5 to 5 1/2 pounds On my trigger pull scale...
HRA stock with Circle P proof and DAS stamp and selector lever cutout...
This is a super rare rifle, has a unique history, was put up after being fired in the National Matches at Camp Perry in 1975...
I have fired and function tested the rifle, runs flawlessly...
Any questions may be asked and I will answer via PM only...
And yes, i would take other Milsurps in trade towards this... but need a fairly large chunk of it in cash... Carbines, Garands, 1911's, another later made 5 line M1A... just PM me... Thanks
Thanks for looking and thanks to the ODT...
