The Mosins were made by Remington and General Electric Westinghouse on a Russian contract in 1915 in America. All the guns were built between 1915 and 1917 but all were dated 1915. The contract could not be filled prior to the 1917 overthrow of the Russian government and the US gov't would not allow sale of the guns to the communist. They were sold to the public through the NRA, Finland and some were used by the US Army. I have two Westinghouse guns that is why I asked about the date in the rec. It seems that this weapon may be a many different parts with the Remington barrel. They are all great shooting military weapons. GLWS

First, thank you for the welcome! Second, let me clarify, the ONLY part I can verify is Remington is the barrel, and I can really only verify that due to the "R" in a circle when I removed the barrel for cleaning. Most of the other visible marks on the barrel seem to have been removed for the most part, can barely make out most if it. The only number I can make out for the date it the last number, a 7, but from what I can make out of the rest of the markings here I believe it is the Remington that was made from 1917-1918. I cannot make out the serial number though which is why I cannot verify that any numbers match. I do know the bolt is NOT remington, marks look like those of Izhevsk. All this is part of why I am asking the LOWEST price I found for a Remington Mosin and am very flexible on the $300 price, however I am told that simply because of the hex head receiver on it it is worth at least $200 to $250. At least that is what I have found so far. Please feel free to educate me as like I said, I am really just getting into all of this.

Have a friend that picked up a hex head mosin the other day from a gun shop still only had to pay $100 for it, just because it is a Hex does not really mean it is worth more. Sorry

but welcome to the trader!!

So how did my 1918 Remington M91 come into being? :) The Remington M91s were marked with the year of manufacture and yes, 1918s do exist (alhough they are definitely more scarce that the more common 1917s). Mine spent some time in Finland but the Remington Armory markings are very clear and legible.
