MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN A VETERAN'S LIFE
Before reading, watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIlPFRsseQ8. Warning: Skip the video if you are a veteran who suffers from PTSD or other combat related psychological issue.
Belk is partnering with Healing 4 Heroes (www.healing4heroes.org) in a fundraising effort to raise money for the Peachtree City non-profit.
The organization brings shelter rescue dogs and veterans together for a six-day intensive training programs. The veterans have been diagnosed with PTSD, TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) or other psychological issues. The veteran handlers and service dogs undergo 60 hours of classroom training, then 4 to 6 months of further training at home. At the end of this period the Healing 4 Heroes staff conducts a detailed test and evaluation before certifying the handler/service dog team under the guidelines of Assistance Dogs International.
Funding is critical to Healing 4 Heroes' success. Dogs are spayed and neutered, kept in foster homes until placed, service dog equipment is supplied to the veteran, training locations are solicited, hotel expenses are provided for veterans from out of town. Most of all, for the trainers and administrative staff the job never ends. The need far exceeds their capabilities and the trainers never give up on the veterans, ever. I know this from personal experience.
NOW FOR THE GOOD STUFF. For every $5 donation to Healing 4 Heroes, the donor receives a ticket to Belk's semi-annual Charity Event Sale schedueld for May 3rd, 6am to 10am. The ticket is good at any Belk store during the event. The ticket holder gets $5 off their first purchase and during the four hour sale can shop for rarely discounted items marked down from 20% to 70%.
It's a WIN-WIN proposition. 100 percent of the proceeds go to Healing 4 Heroes. Now, I know many of the folks on the ODT may not see any great benefit from the fundraiser. It's not a rifle or hunting gear; but what about your spouse or girlfriend. Imagine their response when you slide that ticket across the table to them at dinner.
This isn't about me...but Healing 4 Heroes helped train me and my Golden Retriever, Scout. I won't go into details, but before the training the beautiful animal I rescued, twice saved my life. At least 21 veterans take their own life every day. It makes a difference and is life changing for the veterans. George Franco from Fox 5 has done stories about the organization. The links to these video are below, as well as another informative video. If the video wont play when you click on it, just copy it into another tab on your browser.
If you want to make a donation, PM me and we'll work out the details on how to donate and get you your ticket(s). If you want to purchase a group of tickets to sell in your business or organization...definitely get in touch with me.
Godspeed,
above_all
