The wife's garage door track has been bent for some time now due to obvious reasons.

Today after she left, I heard a pop from the garage. Her door spring had broken, I'm assuming from premature wear from the twisted track.

The opener itself still functions and the other side of the track is straight- am I looking at replacing the full track and the spring? I of course will not be the one, too accident prone for that hefty of a spring.

What would be your move if you were not doing well financially? Bang on the bad track until it's mostly straight and have a pro install the new spring? Thanks!

Try to straighten the track. It’s already broke! If that doesn’t work, replace it.
I replaced both springs on my garage door last year. I was nervous but it’s not hard to do.

How heavy is the door? Insulated? Double. Single?
If I couldn’t afford full replacement, I would disconnect and raise/lower by hand.

People did it for 100 years before elect garage door openers existed.

If it is a single spring on the door header, pay someone to replace it. One slipup with that type of spring and you can injure yourself for life or worse. If you don't repair the door track right, you will just break another spring before too long.

But the womens ain't doin it today. Unless the man is willing to do it for them each and every time, Johnny on the SPOT!!!

I've straighten them before, but it wasn't that bad. The spring is another story. As bad as I have to say it, might need to sell a gun or three or do a side job for the money. That garage door stuff is real expensive anymore. Like everything else I suppose
