Maybe the dog initiated it. Killed Hackman, the wife, and himself.
Did it say anywhere how long they'd been dead since a welfare check had to be called in?
Said they'd been dead awhile, no welfare check, someone coming to do work found the door open.

He was found dead in the mudroom from what appeared to be a fall. She was found dead in the bathroom floor surrounded by pills. Dog was found dead in a closet.
That was my first thought. Unless he pissed off a Movie mogul. I am sure we will get some kind of explanation .
So, she finds him dead on the floor, locks the dog in a closet, and suicides on pills. Dog suffocates or starves.
Sounds like a set up to me. 1 is a tragedy, 2 is maybe coincidence but the dog in the closet screams revenge of some sort.
