15 pages of comments and not a single mention of Costa Rica. Ten years ago, it was the destination beyond everyone's escape hatch, even mine (so much so that my screen name spells it out). My wife is Costa Rican born and raised, I've been going there for the past 20 years and have seen my dream "go-to" be infected with leftist policies and the quicksand of thick government bureaucracy. It is still a beautiful country, friendly people and the best food. But taxes are rising faster than my blood pressure when reading about this election, freedom to do what you want is disappearing, kidnappings are on the rise, and their Covid rules make ours look like a walk in the park.
So, where do I go? I've been in GA since early 90s. I do like it here (not so much in metro Atlanta), we were thinking of a lake home but if GA is turning blue, then there's nothing that makes me have faith that ANY other state will not do the same.
Gents, I believe given how brazen the Dems got lately, that there may very well be no harbor for us in the coming years. We may very well be facing a decade or longer of ruthless authoritarian rule that will reach even your most fortified cabin deep in the woods.
It is too expensive over there now... Better to go somewhere else

In some areas yes. There are still deals to be had though. Dollar for dollar, I can still buy more there than I can here, and live for less. But that is evening out pretty quick.
One benefit if the US economy suffers under a Biden regime: people with second properties will sell them off. Waiting that out will get a prepared buyer a much better deal. Whether it's Lake Keowee or Costa Rica.

I wanna cuss but it’ll get censored. Some of y’all are a huge ******* disappointment. Liberals move wherever they want to, bring their leftist bull**** with them, vote out republicans, vote in radicals and rather than digging in, y’all sound the retreat. Run away? To another state? Another country? What a bunch of **** quitters! The most rightwing forum I frequent is right here and everyone wants to run away...or if they can’t run they want to hide or bury their guns.

Well, when y’all pack up your **** and leave, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya!

Sell your ceramic Georgia Bulldog statue from your front porch on Craigslist...I’m sure you can pick up a new Roll Tide elephant in Bama. They have Craigslist there too.

Please take down your Don’t Tread On Me Gadsden flags in a solemn manner and then respectfully burn it. Or just toss it in the trash because it obviously didn’t mean much to you in the first place other than some sunshine patriot virtue signal.

Have your “Molon Labe” tattoos covered with some Coi Fish or Lotis flower art.

Anything you own with a rebel flag or the word rebel should be discarded.

I’m sure Alabama has some lakes that you can lose all your guns in a tragic boating accident too. (Geez this just pisses me off to no end).

I’m sure you’ve thought through your plans to concentrate all the conservative Republican “freedom lovers” into one state like Alabama, wrapped up in a nice neat little package for the left. The rest of the country turns blue but you guys...you geniuses...are going to have all your dreams come true there.

In the words of the great American patriot Sam Adams:
"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin."

Not one part of that leads me to believe that he meant we should run away to Alabama or Costa Rica or any place else and then wait until...we’ll, **** if I know?

Y’all sound like a bunch of Rosie O’Donnell or Whoopie Goldberg wannabes threatening to move to Canada if the wrong person wins the election. Pathetic.

Run away if you must. I’m not. I’m no tough guy or baddass, I’m just not giving up on my state or my country. Ever. May God have mercy on us all!

That was well said and funny as f.

Sounds great. Not a lot of people from GA here anyway and might as well head back from which I came. SHTF here and is no different than anywhere else and I would prefer a cheaper cost of living, no matter who is in charge.

I am from MA where just like everywhere else, Boston rules the state. I've live in NH, no sales tax but property tax is high and only really populated in the lower section as the same as ME and along the coast line.

Who knows where I'll end up but it will be where I will get most bang for my buck in retirement. Knuckleheads are everywhere but I plan on living comfortably.

Nope know to many tweakers out there. Most live in sheds an/or on the river. No thanks.
I’m talking about Brooks in Fayette county next to Peachtree City.

I have a friend that lives there and I’ve seen zero tweakers.
Mostly delta pilots and doctors etc

OK, I've seen several comments to this effect so let's see the poll results.

I was not born here. When I moved here over 30 years ago I said I'd be planted in the ground here. That is definitely no longer the plan. I love Georgia. But more and more I love what she was. Life is short (and getting shorter).
You are living in Atlanta, not Georgia.

I live just over 30 miles from Atlanta. This used to be 'country'. The point is, Georgia is becoming "Atlanta". If you think you are safe due to distance, you aren't due to politics.
