Getting in shape for summer... who's in?

I would have to disagree with meal frequency not mattering. (Without getting to technical) Smaller meals more often increase more metabolism. Bigger meals less after decrease your metabolism. Of course what you eat in those frequent meals does play a part but the rule of thumb is meal smaller meals (healthy) more often to increase your metabolism.
With all due respect. Your philosophy on nutrition is based on an old school mentality. Not saying it is wrong. Actually many of the greats in bodybuilding and men's aesthetics use the old "bro style" when it comes to nutrition and there is good reason for that, it works! Unfortunately, for the average person, that style of nutrition is not sustainable. The real world happens and you're not able to get 5 to 6 small meals a day constantly on a long term bases. This is why so many people "relapse" to there former out of shape selves.
The philosophy I follow on nutrition is based around IIFYM. This allows you to eat what you want when you want and is based around your specific needs, depending on if you're going to be in a caloric deficit or surplus. I also utilize intermittent fasting with some of my clients, which have garnered amazing results.
With out getting too technical, there are scientific journals and papers written for both sides of the table.
Both work but neither is an absolute.

I understand what you are saying with calories in and calories out. However, if you are wanting to maximize calorie expenditure, then smaller meals more often absolutely increases your metabolism thus allowing you to burn more calories per day. Not only that, but if you are eating correct amounts of protein, carbs, and fats, your body will choose to burn fat because it doesn't see a need to keep it around. Obese people on average only eat 1 or 2 meals a day. They have reduced energy levels and tend to stay up late over eating at night when they finally get home from work and actually think about eating. Eating small meals frequently does the exact opposite. If you are feeding your body what it needs when it needs it as often as it needs it then you well have more energy, recover faster from workouts, build more muscle and burn more fat because you body have everything it needs to do it. In turn you are manipulating your body to get the result you want. You body will not chose to burn body fat,YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT. Your body will not just build muscle, YOU HAVE TO MAKE IT. If you body had choice, it will consume muscle over fat any day. Muscle requires more energy to keep around. Why do you think Olympic athletes have to eat so much so often. Fat doesn't require much to keep around. That's why it's easier (in most anyway) to gain body fat.

And through my experience, obese people claim they eat one or two meals and that is all. Yes, most eat two exorbitantly large meals. It's the grazing on snacks they don't tell you about.
 
and to your point, we are saying the same thing. What you are saying works, but try some other methods out from time to time. It will only help your clients. Not every human responds to one form of training.
 
There is nothing like short, hi-intensity workouts with frequent, smaller portioned meals to get the metabolism fired up. When taking advice on fitness and nutrition, one need only look at the person giving the advice.

In most cases, that is true. Yet aome people respond to different styles of nutrition better than others. There is no "perfect formula".

I can agree with that but the core principles are basically the same.

I can agree with that but the core principles are basically the same.
You can graze on both "bad foods" and "healthy foods" and still look good. The problem is that most of the bad foods are calorie dense. Mostly because of the fats and carbs which make food so delicious. But you can definitely look bad eating "healthy foods" as well.
I recommend natural, non processed foods for my client over all health and systemic wellness. When it comes to simply "looking good" most can eat what they want as long as it's in a deficit and macros are accounted for.
