Question, Can you put a Glock in a pocket and not leave an imprint on your pants? The ones I've held are really wide. Are there no thin ones? No question about reliability though.

I believe the G36 is a single stack (.45 ACP) and slimmer than the typical Glock. But I would not just pocket carry with the weapong "naked". Especially with Glock, the trigger gaurd needs to be covered. There are some minimal holsters I've seen around the internet that's pretty much just a Kydex trigger cover with a para cord attached so when you pull the weapon, the trigger cover pops off on the draw.

My wife took over my M&P 9c w-crimson trace grip, I tried to get it back by giving her a Beretta PX4 sup compact but she wouldn't do it. I ended up trading the beretta for another M&P 9c for myself.

If your girlfriend wants to ccw on her rather than in her purse, then the M&P 9 Shield would be best. For a low recoil round & to keep it lightweight I use C.O.P. bullets in 95 gr +P. Or you could check out Liberty Civil Defense with their 50 gr HP, they say it travels at 2000 fps. I might try some of that in my wife's gun, its show's its actually in stock to so that's a plus!

Typically, IMHO, the smaller the gun the less fun they are to shoot. Trigger pulls on small, little carry guns seem to be intentionally long. Hate that!

I have the XDs 45, which I really enjoy. Trigger is nice and I'm reasonably good with it. If it is too big or too difficult to charge, I wonder if the XDs 9mm would be better.

I love the XD9 subcompact; however, it is the same size as the Glock 26.

Has she tried the Nano? A good friend of mine carried it for a long while and could shoot the eyes out of a target with it.

All the best.

If she likes revolver I would look at the S&W bodyguard 38. I really like this gun for CCW. It comes with with I think is a good trigger and being a S&W it should not be a problem to to have a really nice trigger job done to it if she does not like the factory trigger. And it's MSRP is right around $500

Look at the FNH FS9. It's kind of a mix between a Glock 17 and 19. Nice grip but smaller slide. The FX is supposed to be pretty good. I didn't like the grip texture but a bicycle tube grip cover fixed that.

For another step down in size look at what Kahr has. The CW9 is small and thin but still comfortable to actually shoot.

The first question that needs to be answered is: When and how is she planning on carrying it? This is one of the primary questions when deciding on an EDC. No matter how much or how well she shoots it, if she ends up not carrying it it's a fail. Another consideration is whether or not the weapon is powerful enough to do it's job with any reliability.

Most women do not dress in a way that allows them to CC a weapon that has much size to it or they carry in a purse. Even in a purse a large weapon can get to be a pain and they stop carrying. My daughter and I just went through the process of finding a weapon that she can shoot well AND she will carry every day AND will do the job.

We chose the LC9 with Liberty Civil Defense ammunition. This ammo has a 50 grain frangible bullet that has a 2000fps MV. The recoil is substantially less than typical 9mm ammo and it has devastating terminal ballistics. At the same time there is little worry about over penetration or ricochets. It reliably penetrates about 1.5 to 2 inches and then creates a very large wound cavity that goes about five more inches. The base of the bullet then continues to travel about another 12 inches. I'm not a big fan of the 9mm, but this round looks like it will be very effective for SD.

One note. DO NOT use the American made mags. There are problems with them. However, the Italian made mags are completely reliable.
