Could (or would) Glock install a Gen 2 smooth face trigger in a Gen 3?

I don't believe Glock will install any part that the particular pistol doesn't come with from the factory.

Correct but they are typically only $15-20 from a variety of places.

I've got a 17 trigger assembly ordered, cost like $16, should be here by the weekend.

I've never swapped one out before, but it looks fairly simple.

It is. If there is a problem there are numerous vids on youtube that will help you.
You should find it much more comfortable than the serrated one.
