I have an older Gen 3 Glock 22. Had it for years, still shoot it pretty often (and recently picked up a threaded 40SW barrel for it). I have a 9mm threaded conversion barrel for it that I use sometimes.

I'd like to mount a red dot on it. I know there are plenty of places to send the slide off to get it machined for a RMR/507. But I also come across G17.3 slides every so often that are already set up for a red dot (either machined OE or aftermarket slide).

Most of what I've read says that I can swap out the G17.3 slide (and 9mm barrel) for my G22.3 slide and call it a day without modifying anything else.

what sayeth the group? slide swap is good to go? G17.3 slide and barrel on my G22 frame?

Ideally I'd like to buy a G17.3 slide that is milled with a threaded barrel, and then send my G22.3 slide out for milling just so I have options and an easy swap back and forth between 9mm and 40SW (I have a threaded G22.3 barrel already and plenty of 40SW ammo).

The ejector (piece mounted in the frame) is different on 9mm and .40, although maybe not enough to affect mounting a 9mm slide. Unless you can't be without the pistol I would just recommend having your slide milled. Then you can swap barrels at will (.40 S&W, 9mm, .357 Sig) with the same sight on it.

The slides are interchangeable. As stated: the ejectors are different, but still functional, at least in my experience. So, your plan should work.
Isn’t 40 barrel diameter larger than 9mm, at least gen 1-3.. so 40 to 9 no, 9 to 40 ok with a bit of wobble
It has been a while but I think this is true of glocks: A 9mm barrel will go into a forty’s slide, but will not be as wide as the forty barrel—floppy fit-side to side. The forty barrel will not fit into a 9mm slide.
