I am sure this has been asked alot but can anyone advise me on which aftermarket barrel is best for a Glock 27? KKM, Lone Wolfe, Storm Lake?

I have owned all three. All worked flawlessly. KKM had the best machine work, storm lake had the worst. Lone Wolf is the best bang for your buck. Get them with no markings and black oxide finished. Its worth the extra money and wait. Clyde Armory in athens has a fair amount still in stock from their glock days. They will prob cut deals on them.

Were they .40 to 9mm conver. barrels & if so, were they reliable w/o changing the extractor?

The storm lake was 40-9 for a 27. It was reliable 400 rounds and never a problem with extracting with the .40 parts. The only trouble a 40-9 lone wolf I had was for a G22. it did not work in my Gen 4 22. That was all my gun. I sold the barrel and he had no problem with it in his gen 3. if you are getting it to carry for SD, then get the .357 sig. I wouldnt personally carry the 40-9 barrel without changing the trigger housing and the extractor.

At the lower end of cost you have Lone Wolf and Storm Lake with Storm Lake running about $35 more if you search around (Midway). I held both barrels in my hands before I bought and in my opinion of the two the fit and finish on the Storm Lake was better. The Storm Lake logo was sharp laser etched and the Lone Wolf looked as if it had been spray painted on. Grab both and look at the machining on the hood and around the under lug. I didn’t measure the barrels but rather performed a good eye check inside and out. Be your own judge though and have both in your hand if possible before buying one.

You can order the Lone Wolf in the black with the markings covered up but it is an upcharge and is about the same as a Storm Lake. My understanding is the Lone Wolf is an import and Storm Lake is made in the U.S.A. (TN). Both are claimed to be match grade barrels and some of the stuff I read was the Lone Wolf shoots as good as a factory Glock barrel. The Storm Lake was reported as being a bit more accurate but both are drop in type barrels and significant accuracy improvement is unlikely.

I purchased my aftermarket barrel to shoot cast lead bullets. The chambers are tighter which should theoretically improve accuracy but the trade-off is reduced reliability. Some folks have had to have the chambers enlarged to improve reliability. This can also present itself as a finicky feeding pistol and adjustments to bullet depth and sizing may need to be addressed.

Both are good barrels and Lone Wolf customer service is really good from what I hear. They do have the lion’s share of the after-market Glock barrel business. Here are some links with further discussion.

Having owned a Lone Wolf barrel for my G34, I can say it didn't do anything my factory barrel didn't do better. If running lead is your main goal, run a few jacketed bullets every 4-500 rounds through a stock barrel and your fine. If you must change the barrel, the best out there is the KKM. I've had a few buddies (USPSA Grandmasters) try all of the barrels and the KKMs are the only ones they still have.
