gold and silver?

what is spot price exactly?

i have some canadian silver leafs (valued 5$ Can. dollar) but the silver is worth close to 20 US dollars. is the spot price the price of the silver then?

Yep-

Here is a live chart

And here is a great tracker for "junk silver" values:

"Junk silver" is a poor term-cause it is worth a lot. These coins generally are not melted-but are just traded on their silver value. I think either silver rounds of "junk silver" are the most practical way to go.

i am book marking this topic. so much good info here

thanks everyone. does anyone do this locally? i could just pick some up in person

Silver at spot can be found here on ODT most dealers do not sell at spot so there will be a premium.
Also check out Franklin Sanders aka "The Money Changer" he is in Tennesee and does a considerable business in silver (junk and Bullion).
Also watch the ratio 64.87:1 currently = good time to buy silver.

so would it be cheaper to get in person or just easier to order offline? if its being shipped is there a higher danger of it being lost or stolen

Most will ship insured, some even have free shipping. It can be a chore to find the best price + shipping etc. I have been buying and trading long enough I have a few who call me when they want to move large bars 100 oz and I can usually get them at or below spot. I have done some trading here on ODT with silver.
I like to deal in person face to face much better than mail order.
Check with Rob More " Cartersville Numesmatic Coin Gallery" he has always treated me well but he does charge a premium over spot, most places will be .75 to 1.00 over spot. I prefer bullion easy to find, easy to move. Junk silver is a PITA IMHO 90% silver and subject to loss due to wear.
Send me a PM maybe we can find you some places to buy from if you want some help. I am happy to help out.
